Your Website Isn’t Broken. Your Message Is.
A few months ago I sat across from an author on Zoom.
She had a book. A real one. Years of expertise packed into every chapter.
But she was frustrated.
"I have a website. I post sometimes. Nothing is happening."
I pulled up her site while we were talking.
It looked fine. Clean. Professional even.
But within 30 seconds I knew the problem.
She expected her website to work like a storefront. Put it up, make it look good, and people would find it and reach out.
That's not how it works.
A website works like a salesperson. And a salesperson who just stands there looking sharp but never says anything useful isn't closing anything.
Her site was talking about her book. Not about the person reading it.
She didn't have a website problem. She had a clarity problem.
And I see this constantly. 100+ author websites later. The pattern never changes.
Your website is a tool. Not a trophy.
It only works when you use it. Every post, every podcast, every speaking gig should have one job underneath it: drive people back to your site and give them a reason to take the next step.
Your book got you credibility. Your website converts that credibility into opportunity.
Those are two very different jobs.
The book opens the door. Your website keeps it open.
And you have to walk people through it every single day.
Do you cringe when you send people to your website or do you get excited?
