It’s Not Your Resources, It’s Your Resourcefulness

We turned trash bags into kites.

Not because it was cute.

Because we were kids in a refugee camp with nothing else.

My brother spent hours slicing the perfect trash bag, finding scraps of wood for the cross, tying it off with string he dug up somewhere.

I was all smiles, cutting strips of paper and weaving them into a tail.

We built the perfect bow in the middle.

And when it finally caught the wind, man, we laughed, we had the best time.

That’s resilience.

That’s ingenuity.

That’s making something out of absolutely nothing.

Authors love to say, “I can’t start yet. I don’t have the money, the camera, the team, the perfect plan.”

It’s not your resources that determine the outcomes in most cases.

It’s your resourcefulness.

The smiles that come from your work catching wind, despite the odds, are sweeter than honey.
