How One Yes Changed Everything

Have you ever been told your story or your book could be turned into a movie?

I have.

Many times.

And every time someone says it I smile, say thank you, and quietly file it away under "dreams I don't know how to pursue."

It feels like a different world. Hollywood. Scripts. Agents. Contracts. A universe that wasn't built for people like me.

Then I sat down with Jaimie Engle

Jamie was self-publishing for almost a decade when she showed up to a real estate event and met a guy who had just moved from Hollywood.

He introduced her to an entertainment attorney in LA. The attorney asked if she had any rom-coms. She didn't write rom-coms. She wrote magical realism for kids.

But instead of saying no she said "let me see what I have."

That weekend she took a crash course in screenwriting. Wrote two scripts. Sent them in.

They loved one.

A year and a half later she had a contract. Six months after that they were in production.

And in May 2023 her movie aired on UP TV.

Four days later the Hollywood writers strike started... But she took that experience and ran with it.

That's the unicorn story she shared with me on the Rising Authors Experience.
