The Power of Walking Away
This year taught me how to spot red flags faster and trust my gut even more.
Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is walk away.
Last month I said no to a big opportunity I’d been holding onto for too long.
They dragged their feet for months. The moment I finally sent the “this isn’t going to work” email, it felt like a boulder rolled off my shoulders.
Within days, two far better opportunities showed up with people who were actually ready to build.
Saying no opened more doors for me this year than saying yes ever did.
Building expert author platforms isn’t a weekend sprint.
It’s months or years of deep, intentional work. I do my best work with people who trust my process and know I’m truly on their team.
The red flags have been loud in 2025:
• Price being the first battle. I’m not expensive. I’m an investment.
• The “can you just…” mindset. I’m not an employee. I’m a partner doing deep work.
• The Diva Complex. If someone needs to feel above me, that’s an instant no. I don’t work below anyone. I work with you.
Peace of mind over people-pleasing, every time.
What red flags make you step back from a project or partnership?
